Tool Review – Dewalt Multitool

dewalt multitoolIf you’re looking for clean cuts and smooth surfaces, this is not your tool,  but if you’re looking for a fast, rough tool that can get jobs done quickly, look no further.

The DeWalt 20v Multitool is an excellent option for knocking down high spots or cutting in hard to reach places.  You will need to go back and finish everything off because this tool is definitely for speed and not finish work.  That being said, it is now one of my favorite tools in my arsenal.

I purchased the tool on Amazon because I needed the cutter for a specific project.  Since then, I have used it primarily for sanding.  The tool-less head changes very easily and the Multitool Kit comes with everything you need to get started.

On a recent project, I had to knock down some high epoxy spots inside a kayak including a high edge on some fiberglass tape.  I started with a wonderful Bahco Carbide Scraper that I picked up from Duckworks Magazine just to knock down the edges.  I didn’t mind too much what it would look like because I knew that once the kayak was built, I would never see these parts of the boat again.  The DeWalt Multitool smoothed all of the edges down in very short time.  It probably saved me hours of work with another tool.

  • LED light to illuminate the work surface
  • DeWalt brushless motor
  • 20V Lithium ion
  • Tool-less head changes
  • Variable speed

  • It would be nice if you could somehow set the speed so it doesn’t fluctuate all over the place when sanding, but it is a very minor detail

I highly recommend this tool to anyone who owns a home or does any sort of woodworking.  It is extremely well constructed and makes many jobs that would be difficult into simple tasks.  I actually mentioned this to my brother-in-law (he is a professional carpenter) and it turns out he has the same model and he stated that it is probably the tool he pulls out the most frequently due to its versatility.
